CT-ASTA Solo/Ensemble Festival 2021

Your ASTA board has been hard at work coming up with ideas to make 2021 the best year it can be
despite the cares of the world at this time.

We are planning a virtual Solo and Ensemble Festival on Sunday, May 16 from 3-5 PM. This festival will
be a non-competitive event, designed to give all levels of students a positive performance and
evaluation experience. Over Zoom, each student (or ensemble) will have a 15 minute time slot, of which
5 minutes will be performance, 7 minutes of live feedback from an ASTA qualified adjudicator, and 3
minutes for judges to finish up written comments.

Students will be given a rating of I-Superior II-Excellent or III-Good, and will be evaluated on the
following categories:
  • Tone Quality
  • Intonation
  • Rhythm - pulse, tempo and accuracy
  • Articulations
  • Technique
  • Musicianship - interpretation, phrasing, and dynamics
  • Stage deportment

Students will also receive written comments from their adjudicator and a Certificate of Participation
after the Festival.

For this first year, students have free choice of music and do not require accompaniment. ASTA board
members have volunteered their time to get the event up and running. We hope to make it an annual
event!

Please be thinking of your students who would benefit from this experience. Some teachers are
planning to make it a requirement for the end of year grade. If you have a small ensemble which has
been able to rehearse safely, they are welcome to perform. We are defining the small ensemble as one
person per part.

We want to emphasize that our goal for this first year is to create a positive, non-competitive event for
students to have a different and satisfying musical experience. More information will follow soon. We
hope to see many students in May!
